Graduate stories: Brodie Heath

Graduate Health & Safety Advisor

I started working as a Health and Safety graduate in January 2012 with the Perth Operations Health and Safety team. Coming straight out of university to full time work was a big change.

During the first six months I had great support and guidance from my team in Perth. Since then I have worked an 8/6 fly in fly out (FIFO) schedule at the Port Hedland operations.  I’ve also had day trips to Cloudbreak, Christmas Creek and the rail operations.  My next rotation will be FIFO to Cloudbreak on an 8/6 roster.

Over the last year I have been involved in a lot of interesting projects including, reviewing health and safety documents,  being involved in incident investigations onsite, reviewing and updating the onsite chemical register, doing field work audits to ensure compliance against company and legislative standards and being involved in organising events to promote good health.

The best thing about working at Fortescue and the graduate program is working on site and getting to rotate through the different operations to gain a whole business perspective plus we get to interact with all levels of employees.
