Dr Geoff Raby Address to Boao Forum Press Conference
Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen
Fortescue is incredibly proud and honoured to be returning as a Diamond Sponsor of the Boao Forum for Asia Conference in Hainan. This is our fourth consecutive year as a Diamond Sponsor, an ongoing support which shows our belief in the Boao Forum and the value we put on our relationship with the Forum and China as a whole.
We look forward to joining world leaders and leading executives from business and industry at the Boao Forum as we share our visions and ideas on the most pressing issues in the dynamic Asian region and the world at large.
The Boao forum is emerging as one of the most important business forums in the world and Fortescue is delighted to have the opportunity to provide a meaningful contribution.
This year’s theme Asia in the Changing World – Moving Toward Sound and Sustainable Development is of particular interest to Fortescue as we seek long term, resilient relationships which assist in the development of both sides of the partnership.
As you will be aware, China is the central focus of Fortescue’s business and Fortescue was the first major Australian business to establish a China Advisory Board, to provide advice on ways to foster our relationships with Chinese companies and government.
It is a direct result of this co-operative approach and our willingness to take the time to understand our partners that Fortescue’s iron ore exports to Asian steel mills continue to grow. Continued cooperation between industry and government at Boao will further develop this important relationship.”
In closing I would like to acknowledge the Chairman of the Boao Forum, former Japanese Prime Minister, Yasuo Fukuda, and his Board of Directors as well as former United States Ambassador Zhou Wenzhong to the position of Secretary General of the Boao Forum.
I know this strong team is determined to build on the unique position the Boao Forum occupies as one of the leading business forums in Asia and the world and I believe they will be successful.
I look forward to many fruitful discussions at April’s conference.
